This version of Monteverdi's opera explores the romanticization of tragic female figures in art.
Orfeo is a sculptor, using Euridice as his muse. Orfeo's artistic vision and ego consumes him and in turn Euridice, causing her to be trapped in a copper sculpture of her own likeness. Orfeo continues to succeed after losing Euridice, leaving behind her memory and becoming famous in the fine arts world.
